The Basics of Poker
The basic rules of Poker are fairly simple: each player receives five cards, and the highest-ranking hand wins. In other words, a pair of aces is the highest hand. But, you can also get a better pair, straight, or even a high-low straight. There are some variations of poker, but they all have the same basic rules. You will learn about all of them below. But first, let’s learn what is a “poker hand” and how it is determined.
In many poker games, players have a set betting interval. A player has the privilege to be the first to make the first bet, and every player is obligated to bet a certain amount. In addition, each player must place a number of chips into the pot equal to the total of those contributed by players before them. The player who makes the first bet is known as the “active player.”
Each betting round concludes with a showdown, and the best hand wins. If all but one player has folded, a player collects the pot without revealing his hand. This process repeats itself many times, until one player has accumulated all the money he contributed. The winning player is the one who takes the pot. If this occurs, he’s awarded the pot. Depending on the game variation, a player may win the pot.
