The Basics of Poker
In poker, the lowest hand is a pair of aces and a pair of five cards. If more than one player has five of a kind, the higher card wins. However, in some variations, an ace may be the lowest card. In these situations, the highest hand wins. There are many types of hands in poker.
The game of poker can be played with any number of players, but the ideal number is six or eight people. In games with seven or more players, poker chips are used to play. Poker chips are numbered and each color has a different value. The lowest chip is the white chip, while the highest chip is the red chip. The players make bets with the chips in one round, and the highest hand wins the pot.
After the initial round of betting, each player gets one card face up and one face down. The third round of dealing is done by the dealer. Then, three more rounds of dealing take place. Each player bets into the middle pot, and the highest hand wins. Players bet in a clockwise manner. During the betting intervals, players can either raise their bet or check, depending on how their poker hand ranks.
The second round of betting starts. The two dealers remain in the game. When a player folds, he forfeits his right to the original pot. This means that the players may win the main pot, and the side pots may be won by different players.
