In almost all games, poker is played using chips. The lowest-valued chip is the white chip. A red chip is worth five whites. A blue chip is worth two, four, or five reds. Players “buy in” to a game by purchasing chips, usually the same amount. If there are more than seven players in a game, more chips are required. There are betting rules depending on where the dealer is sitting. A dealer’s position in the game is also important to the outcome of the game.

As with any game of chance, poker is a game of skill and luck. While both factors influence results, your skills and playing style can greatly diminish the effect of chance. Unless you have a lot of experience, knowledge, and edges, the influence of chance will be greater. But with enough practice, you’ll be able to reduce its influence.
